DESCRIPTION

Frank is a Seattle-based Full Stack Web Engineer specializing in DevOps, DevExp, and automated testing. He enjoys bootstrapping new products and making sure teams have the tooling they need to ship confidently and rapidly. He is a passionate advocate for accessible user experiences and highly auditable processes.

Frank has spent the majority of his career working at fast-paced startups using mostly Javascript/Typescript, React, Express, Terraform, and deploying to AWS. He is an expert in implementing highly repeatable immutable infrastructure-as-code and platforms for production-accurate end-to-end testing, which was key to ensuring a near-100% uptime for all of Freewill.com's services through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Known to take a human-first approach to his work, Frank makes sure that his teams can push the products they were hired to push without worrying about business-irrelevant considerations they shouldn't need to think about. He is currently seeking new opportunities after serving as the Platform Engineering Tech Lead at Freewill, and would love to be deployed onto your projects.

OPTIONS

--devops

Frank is an expert in DevOps, and has built core testing, deployment, and disaster recovery processes for multiple startups. He has years of experience with infrastructure-as-code, and has built and maintained CI/CD pipelines utilizing ephemeral environments for multiple companies. He believes that advocating for and continuously improving the individual contributor experience acts as a force multiplier for delivering business value.

Some of Frank's favorite tools and methods include:

  • Atlantis
  • BASH w/ NodeJS
  • ChatOps + GitOps
  • GitHub Actions + CircleCI
  • Kanban
  • Sentry
  • Serverless Framework
  • Scrum
  • Slack
  • Terraform
  • The Four Keys of Observability
  • The Three Ways + Five Ideals of DevOps

--aws-infrastructure

Frank has been the primary maintainer of the AWS infrastructure and account for every company he has worked for, making decisions that stay mindful of the AWS Well Architected Framework. He prefers to interact with AWS through either their API, Terraform, or the Serverless Framework, and avoids using the AWS Console as much as possible in order to encourage repeatable, auditable processes and reduce errors.

He has built products and services using the following AWS services:

  • API Gateway
  • Backup
  • ACM
  • CloudFormation
  • CloudFront
  • CloudTrail
  • CloudWatch
  • Detective
  • DynamoDB
  • EC2
  • ECS
  • GuardDuty
  • IAM
  • KMS
  • Lambda
  • AWS RDS/Aurora
  • Route53 DNS
  • S3
  • VPC
  • WAF

--full-stack-web

Although he prefers to support engineering teams in an Ops, Site Reliability, or Platform facing role, Frank is a well-rounded full-stack engineer, able to build, maintain, and provide full debugging support for production web applications compliant with W3C Guidelines for accessibility. He believes that the best way to support engineering teams pushing new features is to be able to push new features himself, and is more than capable of taking on a front-end, back-end, or full-stack role.

Frank has contributed critical features in his past roles using:

  • Axe
  • Cypress
  • ESLint
  • Express
  • Jest
  • Lighthouse
  • MobX
  • pdftk
  • Playwright
  • PostgreSQL
  • Postmark
  • Prettier
  • React
  • Sequelize
  • Tailwind CSS
  • Webpack

--other-skills

Frank has been a Linux user since he was in middle school, and although he currently uses a Macbook Pro as his daily driver and enjoys using Serverless platforms, he is still extremely knowledgeable about the Linux ecosystem, and debugging issues with Linux-based systems. He is well-versed in the TCP/IP stack, network security, and is experienced with most major application layer protocols, such as SSH, SSL, and DNS.
